Brno University of Technology is the oldest university in Brno. Its beginnings go back to the mid-19th century, from 1849, when the German-Czech technical school was founded in Brno. Currently, the only technical University in Brno it covers the full spectrum of technical sciences and a range of artistic disciplines.
Brno University of Technology is made up of 8 faculties. Research work at BUT focuses on various research projects funded from the state budget. Research is also focussed by clearly defined and supporting sponsors, such as the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, Grant Agency of professional ministry, foreign agencies and research programs, a significant portion of applied research is directly initiated by domestic and foreign industrial firms.
