Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno, is the oldest independent institute focussed on agricultural and forestry teaching in the Czech lands. It was established in 1919 as the Agricultural University in Brno and under that name existed until 1994. Its creation was the completion of a long-term effort to establish a centre of agricultural higher learning in Moravia, which always was one of the countries with the most advanced agriculture schools in Central Europe. During its time it has undergone a number of organizational and content changes and has prepared ten of thousands of experts in different spheres of the economy and areas of practice. 

Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno (MZLU v Brně) consists of five faculties and one university institute: Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Timber Faculty, Faculty of Business and Economics, Horticulture Faculty, Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies and the Institute of Lifelong Learning. Horticulture Faculty is located in Lednice, the others are in Brno. The number of students in Brno currently reaches 10 621, including 350 foreign students. 

The Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno has been a leader of the working group for the project CEITEC. And is represented by the Vice-Rector for scientific research doc. Ing. Miroslav Havlíček, CSc., the chair of the working group is Mgr. Vilém Reinöhl, CSc., other members of the working group are:
