CEITEC Coordination Board meeting

The primary goal of this board meeting was to provide regular quarterly update to the CB members and to approve key documents – Activity Plan of the Project for 2012, Common Evaluation of Scientific Excellence and common rules and policies. Coordination Board approved all negotiated documents on this meeting.

Cooperation with the Imperial College of London Negotiated by CEITEC
Úterý, Prosinec 13th, 2011A delegation of experts from the Central European Institute of Technology, CEITEC, negotiated cooperation with counterparts at the London university, Imperial College, on 8 December 2011; they were also seen by the Pro Rector for International Affairs, Simon Buckle. The parties agreed on the importance and merit of mutual cooperation based on the needs of specific research groups of both institutions. Their cooperation is already successful on a smaller scale and should develop further in the future. As an example of the results of this collaboration, students from both participating organizations’ doctoral programmes will have the opportunity to participate in exchange programmes. International science masterminds from CEITEC have been meeting in Brno

Money for setting up a European centre of scientific excellence has been acquired together by Brno universities and research institutes from the Operational Programme Research and Development for innovation. The European Commission has approved 5 billion for the CEITEC project

Therefore CEITEC is the first finally approved project of a centre of scientific excellence in the Czech Republic. The recipient of the grant in the amount of 5.2 billion crowns from the Operational Programme Research and Development for innovation from European Structural Funds is Masaryk University which submitted the project together with Brno University of Technology and other Brno universities and research institutes. The centre will focus on the research and development in biomedicine and advanced materials and technology.

The finance for creating modern laboratories and facilities for 800 scientists is applied for by the Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, other Brno universities and research institutes. It is one of the highest amounts that the Czech Republic will be applying for from the European funds within the program of Research and development for innovations. The project of the Central European Institute of Technology – CEITEC got ninety-nine points from the Ministry of Education. With this result the Brno project of Masaryk University and University of Technology took first place among major projects. The vision of several billion crowns into science and research of Brno is again closer to reality. In the case of the approval by the European Committee the building could be started in Bohunice campus and Pod Palackého vrchem at the beginning of next year.

The Universities have agreed on the next approach in the preparation of the CEITEC project

The aim of the project is to create the best conditions and environment for the development of research into Biotechnology, advanced materials and technology. A framework agreement of cooperation, proposes the Masaryk University shoud be the main beneficiary of the grant on condition of an equal partnership with the Brno Technical University, both Rectors signed the agreement on 3rd March 2009.

Čtvrtek, Únor 5th, 2009On Thursday 5th of February 2009 in Brno, a lecture was given by the world-renowned expert in the field of nanotechnoloty, prof. Yoshio Nishi. Prof. Nishi has many years of experience with the issues of research and running a multi-function laboratory in the field of nanotechnology, for these reasons he was invited by the creators of the CEITEC project, so that he could present his lecture, „Stanford Nanofabrication Facilities and CEITEC“. In his presentation prof. Nishi presented how the Stanford Nano Fabrication Facility is run, introducing possible good practices, which could be implemented in the running of the CEITEC project.
Conference “European research infrastructure for innovation: strategies, models of management and financing of research centres”
Pátek, Leden 16th, 2009Conference „European research infrastructure for innovation: strategies, models of management and financing of research centres“ on the 15th January 2009 respresentatives from the CEITEC project attended a conferences organised by Wroclaw Research Centre EIT+. The aim of the conference was to discuss and exchange experiences regarding management and models of operation of large investment projects in the field of R&D, which are (or will be) financed by the EU Structural fund, and to present opportunities to develop new technologies and innovations in nanotechnology and biomaterials.
