The Governor of the South Moravian Region
Mgr. Michal Hašek
Governor South Moravian Region
Dear Friends,
South Moravian places a great emphasis on the development of innovation and innovative research in our region. It’s one of our primary priorities, in which we see not only the way to the future, but also a tool which can significantly help us in the fight against the current financial crisis.
We are the founders of more than 200 schools and education facilities, The South Moravia city of Brno, is in terms of the number of Tertiary Institutes, second only to Prague and on the level of education of our inhabitants we belong among the best in the Republic. From this comes our plan – we are aiming in the next several years to become one of the most innovative regions in the European Union.
Our support of scientific research projects such as CEITEC, which has such great potential, is therefore completely logical. Its implementation doesn’t just increase the prestige and scientific research potential of the region, but also bring many needed jobs.
This is why the South Moravian Region brought in a new funding program SoMoPro (South Moravia Program for Distinguished Research), which should entice top international scientists to the region, specifically leaders of scientific research teams. These can then have a significant share in the start-up and development of ambitious scientific research projects such as CEITEC and can also help to develop the careers of young scientists in the region. It’s a really unique program, which with its aims and scope has no comparison in the Czech Republic.
Dear friends, I believe, that the cooperation of the Region, the City and the University will bear fruit and CEITEC will place Brno firmly as a European centre of science and research.

Governor South Moravian Region
