CEITEC – it’s significance for Brno
Our city is proud of the fact that it’s talked about as a centre of justice, as an exhibition town, as Janáček’s city and last but not least as a university town. And now these Brno universities, together with several research institutes and in cooperation with the City of Brno are now taking care of adding another complementary description to the town. Brno will become, thanks to their initiative, a world-class centre of science and research. The Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) project should create in Brno by 2015 a centre of scientific excellence. Top quality scientific institutes of molecular and cellular biology; of biomedical fields and material sciences is being created here. The best quality local and international scientists will definitely want to work and cooperate together in such a centre. In this way Brno and the South Moravian region, will promote general and applied research not only in a European sphere but also around the world and will generate opportunities to work with together with the private sector. The project significantly increases the research and innovation potential of the Czech Republic and its competitiveness. Brno will be presented to the world as a modern, dynamic city, hungry for innovation and I believe that on the European scene people will have to take notice.
