The award is given for the most talented students who have demonstrated exceptional skills and thinking in their field. Among this year's award-winning students is Dominika Kalasová from CEITEC BUT, who works in the research group Materials Characterization and Advanced Coatings.

Dominika Kalasová is a PhD student of Advanced Nanotechnologies and Microtechnologies at CEITEC Brno University of Technology. Her dissertation thesis is devoted to X-ray computed tomography of structural polymer biomaterials, thus loosely continuing her diploma thesis, which mainly involved the development of CT techniques for soft materials and subsequent image processing.

The student gained experience abroad in Japanese company Rigaku, where she designed special algorithms for CT data analysis, which the company plans to implement in new software for computer tomographs. She also studied at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. Currently, she is a researcher of two projects of TACR and two projects of the BUT internal grant agency. She is the author of several contributions to international conferences, the first author and co-author of publications published in renowned foreign scientific journals, and is also involved in teaching university students.

“Dominika is an example of an excellent talented student who deserves the Josef Hlávka Award for Best Students for her approach to study and science so far,” concluded Radimír Vrba, Director of CEITEC BUT.
