Human Viruses

We study human viruses from families Flaviviridae including tick-borne encephalitis and Zika viruses and Picornaviridae including rhinoviruses and enteroviruses. We aim to structurally characterize replication cycle of the viruses and their interactions with immune system.

Honeybee Viruses

Honeybees (Apis mellifera) are vital for agricultural industry by providing pollination for many food crops. However, the bees suffer from virus infections that result in colony losses. We study structures of virions and replication enzymes of honeybee viruses in order to allow development of antiviral compounds.

Phage Therapy

Phages can be used to treat infections even those caused by bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. We study infection cycle of phage phi812 that infects Staphylococcus aureus. Our results will allow preparation of genetically modified phages targeting new bacterial strains.
