The Advanced Instrumentation and Material Characterization Methods group conducts research and development across a broad range of fields, including laser spectroscopy, optics, and X-ray computed tomography. Our primary goals are to provide insight into current scientific trends and anticipate future needs and requirements. The group’s research capabilities have already proven their value in fundamental research, as well as in applied research through close collaboration with a wide range of industrial partners.
Our research delivers immediate benefits to industry and real-world applications. We actively translate the results of both fundamental and applied research into practical solutions through contract research and grant-funded collaborations. In cooperation with leading global manufacturers, we develop state-of-the-art instrumentation and analytical methods for X-ray micro- and nanotomography as well as laser spectroscopy. We provide our partners with comprehensive analyses of a wide range of materials, components, and assemblies, with resolutions ranging from hundreds of micrometres down to the nanometre scale. Thanks to our accreditation in accordance with ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025, we also ensure the highest level of reliability and certified quality of all results, thereby making a significant contribution to technological advancement.
We have successfully translated our long-standing scientific expertise into real-world applications by establishing the innovative spin-off companies Lightigo and CactuX. In doing so, we have built on more than 20 years of experience with LIBS technology and over 10 years of CT application development. We have developed our own commercial products, including the state-of-the-art FireFly analyser for rapid chemical mapping, SaguaroX motorised positioning systems, and specialised calibration phantoms for CT systems. We also initiated the LINACTON project, which is establishing a new high-energy tomography centre for industrial applications. Through these activities, we directly address the challenges of Industry 4.0 and electromobility, delivering practical technological solutions to the market.
