Two-day mini “Postdoc Retreat” on 23-24 September 2021
The focus of the event will be on strengthening the scientific network among researchers in Brno and the Czech Republic as well as on increasing career development skills during an online workshop for postdoctoral researchers in the life sciences and technology.
The workshop is designed to support decision making, build personal and professional development skills to enhance career success, and increase career and networking confidence. Participants will be equipped with a toolkit for career advancement and beyond.

Online Workshop - Session 1: Career Development Skills
You will identify career opportunities and understand the differences in academia vs industry careers. In an interview, CEITEC Core Facility Cryo-EM/ET head Jiří Nováček will give insight into the key decisions that opened his career path. At the next step, you will become aware of your personal areas of interest as well as your own strengths, weaknesses, values, and skills, and understand their influence on your career success. In a masterclass on career networking and professional self-presentation, you will gain insight on how to use professional platforms such as LinkedIn to enhance your career.

Meet with your colleagues, get to know each other, become part of the scientific network among Brno and Czech Republic scientists.
Friday 24 th September
9.30 – 12.30 (CEST)
Online Workshop - Session 2: CV, Interview and Communication Skills
You will gain fresh insight and practical tools, tips and techniques on CV writing, application, and interviews (with time for practising). You will then also learn how to harness the four complementary styles of communication for effective everyday (incl difficult) conversations, to promote feedback and handle criticism with ease. Leave with an action plan to develop your leadership and communication style.
This event will be part of the International Postdoc Appreciation Week (20th-24th September 2021).
