The CEITEC Nano Research Infrastructure at the Brno University of Technology is the largest cleanroom nano-centre located in the Czech Republic. It provides complex equipment, expertise, and methods for R&D in nanotechnology and advanced materials. The facility includes nanofabrication, nano-characterization, structural analysis, and X-ray computed tomography. We provide scientists with personal access to the state-of-the-art scientific equipment and analytical services.

We are inviting applications from qualified research candidates for the Electron Microscopy and Analysis Specialist position in the CEITEC Nano facility. The specialist will be responsible for running the assigned analytical equipment (electron microscopes) and training of new users. Suitable candidates should have experience with electron microscopy and various analytical techniques, equipment operation, and preferably also experience working in a clean room laboratory.

Responsibilities

  •        Operation of assigned electron microscope, teaching of– and providing support to new instrument users.
  •        Assistance with projects commissioned by academic or commercial customers and assistance to users of the CEITEC Nano research infrastructure with their projects.
  •        Support selection, tenders, and installation of new instruments.
  •        Assist the research infrastructure staff with the development and enforcement of safety and operational protocols.

Qualifications

  •        MSc. or Ph.D. in natural sciences or engineering.
  •        Broad experience with characterization of micro- and nanostructures by various electron microscopy and analytical techniques:
  • o   Electron microscopy (SEM, TEM)
  • o   Focused ion beam systems (FIB)
  • o   Micro-analytical techniques (EDS, WDS, SIMS)
  •        Experience with various techniques of sample preparation for electron microscopy.
  •        Experience with characterization of microstructure and phase composition of materials by diffraction-based techniques (XRD, EBSD).
  •        Experience with equipment troubleshooting/maintenance/repair.
  •        High energy, self-motivated with excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  •        Ability to adhere to procedures in cleanroom environment, handling of hazardous chemicals, gasses, and waste disposal.
