Bio
Dalibor Blažek's research group at CEITEC Masaryk University focuses on the study of cyclin dependent kinases (CDKs) and their roles in the regulation of transcription and RNA splicing, processes that determine which parts of genetic information are used in the cell. His discovery in this area was published in the prestigious journal Nature in 2022. The group's main research focuses on enzymes CDK11 and CDK12 that have essential roles in gene expression and also affect growth of many types of tumours.
Dalibor Blažek studied molecular biology and genetics at Masaryk University and pharmacy at the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, where he received his Ph.D. in molecular microbiology and immunology. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of California (UCSF), he returned to Brno, where he established his research group.
He has been a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) since 2023.
