Using computed tomography (CT), we analyze dimensional and shape deviations in manufactured parts and use the acquired data as a basis for mold correction. Comparing the scanned part with its nominal CAD model enables precise localization of undesirable deviations and helps reduce the costs associated with mold optimization.
Method
Using specialized software tools, the scanned part is compared with its nominal CAD model. The analysis enables us to identify areas where the actual geometry of the manufactured part deviates from the specified shape.
Surfaces with unacceptable deviations are then manually selected, and the resulting data are used as a basis for designing a modified mold geometry. This approach can compensate for manufacturing deviations and reduce the number of iterations required during mold correction.
The process is not fully automated and requires expert evaluation of the results. In our laboratory, we therefore test specialized software tools developed specifically for this application.
Equipment
The analysis is performed using industrial computed tomography (CT) systems in combination with specialized software tools for comparing measured CT data with nominal CAD models and evaluating geometric deviations.
