Please celebrate with us the 200th anniversary of the birth of Gregor Johann Mendel, abbot and brilliant scientist, and father of genetics.
The festival combining science, faith, and fun will take place on 17-24 July 2022 at Mendel Square in Brno.

Masaryk University has prepared exactly five sites for you! You can find them at the Augustinian Abbey on Saturday 23rd July.
CEITEC
- Count peas like Mendel
See if you can count peas like Gregor Johann Mendel. Catch a cup in a pile of peas and see if your experiment turns out as nicely as the "fathers of genetics" did 150 years ago.
- Isolate your own DNA
You rinse your mouth with a saline solution and we'll show you the rest. You can isolate your DNA with us in a few minutes and you can easily do it at home. In addition, you will take away your isolated DNA in a small test tube as a souvenir from the festival.

- How it works in the hive
Who lives in a hive and how does it work? How many flowers must a bee fly around to get a kilo of honey? All inquisitive questions will be answered by Mrs. Kyperská, Mr. Mendel's restless gardener. You will also look at Mendel's apiary with her.
- Art workshop - printing on canvas bags
Make an original pea bag and take it out into the world.
- Microscopy
The cells are so small that they are invisible to the eye. We will show how to work with a microscope, which is an essential tool for every scientist. And what does such a cell actually look like?

- The topic is PEAS - growing peas, stages of pea growth
