Oncogenic signaling pathways are intricately regulated networks where alterations can lead to malignant transformation but also provide opportunities for targeted interventions. In the case of malignant melanoma, the aggressive growth of cancer cells is driven by BRAF and NRAS oncogenic mutations that overactivate the ERK mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. In my talk, I will introduce the concept of MAPK fitness zone and describe a novel signaling axis essential for controlling ERK MAPK signaling in melanoma.
