The structure of a protein is closely linked to its function, but a static image alone is often not enough to understand how a protein actually works. Proteins are dynamic molecules that change shape and interact with each other. Some also contain intrinsically disordered regions that do not adopt a single stable three-dimensional structure. This ability to change their spatial arrangement can be essential for a protein to function properly. We therefore study not only protein structure, but also protein dynamics and interactions with other molecules.
