We provide non-destructive analysis of fiber composite materials using computed tomography (CT). The method delivers reliable information about the internal structure of components without damaging the specimen and provides detailed insight into the arrangement of reinforcing fibers.

Method

The analysis enables the determination of local and global fiber orientation, fiber concentration, deviation from a predefined reference orientation, and fiber orientation in a projected plane. In addition, various statistical parameters, such as fiber distribution, can be evaluated.

The results can be presented in multiple ways, including color-coded visualization of local fiber orientation in 2D and 3D, vector and tensor representations, histograms of orientation distribution, color-coded fiber concentration maps, and line plots of individual orientation tensor components.

Equipment

The analysis is performed using industrial computed tomography (CT) systems and specialized software for the quantitative evaluation of fiber orientation, concentration, and distribution, as well as advanced two-dimensional and three-dimensional visualization of the results.
