In this talk, Dr. Daniel Quintana will cover why social media skills are crucial for researchers and provide practical tips for how various social media platforms can be used to keep up-to-date with emerging methods, find new collaborators, and to work with a global community of scientists. Dr. Quintana will also cover how social media can help level the playing field in academia, regardless of seniority or location. While the use of several social media platforms will be covered, the main focus will be on Twitter.
Speaker bio: Dr. Daniel Quintana is a Senior Researcher in Biological Psychiatry at the University of Oslo. His research interests include social behavior, the oxytocin system, heart rate variability, autism spectrum disorder, and meta-science. Along with his research, Dr. Quintana is also a science communicator, using various social media platforms and podcast to share scientific research and discuss the scientific research process. He has also written “Twitter for Scientists”, a book that provides a guide for scientists that are interested in using Twitter to share their work and build their research profiles.
