Sometimes the key is to recognize the part of your life that defines you, learn not to fight it and seize opportunities to expand your experiences, ultimately enriching your life and your family.
A wise man turns chance into good fortune”. – Thomas Fuller
John Mitchels is currently a Life Science Electron Microscopy Product Portfolio Manager at Thermo Fisher in Brno. His work focuses around developing electron microscope products for biological applications which are used in a wide range of research around the world. His journey begins as a child with parents who encouraged diverse thought and expectation. Living by experiencing is one of his foundational approaches to life. Turning lemons into lemonade is another, for example learning to see the benefits and strengths of dyslexia, and being willing to commit to life changing direction shifts is a third.
Early on he found a love for science and more importantly microscopy which has been key to his nearly 30 year career. Moving from medical microscopy to imaging informatics, then to marine biology, then off to biotechnology, then to chemistry with a brief stop in physics. Life changed during his PhD. He met the love of his life a Czech exchange student visiting in the UK. After having 2 children in the UK, it was time to emigrate from the UK. He joined the commercial sector in Brno 10 years ago, moving the family here. Within the company he has moved from application specialist to workflow engineer and into the business team now defining and selling the microscopes which he loves. Such movement posed many challenges to his family but now the benefits are clear.
