Doctoral student Michaela Krafcikova from the Lukas Trantirek Research Group received the Masaryk University Rector´s Award for outstanding doctoral students. Krafcikova is currently enrolled in the Biomolecular Chemistry and Bioinformatics doctoral programme at the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University.

In her research, Krafcikova is focused on the influence of the intracellular environment on the conformational behaviour of non-canonical DNA structures associated with the development of cancer. Her research significantly contributes to the development of a new technology that will allow for the characterisation of the atomic structure of nucleic acids and their interactions with drugs in the intracellular space of living mammalian cells using spectroscopy.

Michaela Krafcikova is also involved in the development of a bioreactor that enables the maintenance of metabolic homeostasis in mammalian cells during spectroscopic measurements. Her publications have already been well received in the professional scientific community, and she regularly presents the results of her work at international conferences, as a representative of both Masaryk University and CEITEC.
