Thomas Roitsch is professor for Plant Phenomics, University of Copenhagen, DK and the group leader of Molecular Plant Physiology and Plant Phenomics. His main research interests include the role of source-sink relations and assimilate partitioning for key yield related processes, ranging from plant growth and development to abiotic stress responses and beneficial and pathogenic microbial interactions in model and crops plants. He obtained his PhD from the University of Regensburg in Botany & Cell Biology, where he studied protein glycosylation and secretion. Dr. Roitsch spent two years at the University of Washington, Seattle, studying signal transduction mechanisms leading to the activation of the virulence genes of Agrobacterium. In 1990, he was appointed Research Assistant at his alma mater. He studied regulation of carbohydrate partitioning in higher plants, and completed his habilitation in 1996. Five years later, he received a professorship at the Plant Science Institute of the University of Würzburg. In 2009, he was appointed a full Professor for Plant Physiology at University of Graz, Austria and in 2013, he moved his research group to University of Copenhagen in Denmark. He holds 15 patent applications and has published more than 140 scientific papers, and his research has been cited more than 8,400 times.
