Bio
Martin Lysák is Head of the Plant Cytogenomics Research Group at CEITEC Masaryk University. His research focuses on the evolution, structure and function of plant chromosomes and genomes, particularly in plants from the Brassicaceae family.
He has made significant contributions to understanding how whole-genome duplications, chromosomal rearrangements and changes in chromosome number shape the evolution of plant genomes. His research has helped elucidate the mechanisms underlying changes in chromosome number and the processes through which plant genomes gradually reorganise following genome duplication. Together with his group, he studies the evolution of plant genomes and chromosomes, including the evolutionary dynamics of centromeres. His research combines genomics, epigenomics, comparative cytogenomics and paleogenomics.
Martin Lysák previously worked at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research in Gatersleben, Germany, and at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
