Sip of Science: A Perfect Fit - Tailoring Plant Genomes with CRISPR

About Event

Plants have it rough. They can’t pack their bags during a drought, hide from a sudden frost, or swat away pests. Evolution might solve these issues eventually, but with the current pace of climate change, we simply don’t have the time to wait around.

Enter CRISPR. In this talk, we’ll explore how these famous "molecular scissors" actually work in plant biotechnology. Instead of crossing our fingers for random mutations and do laborious selection based breeding, we can now make elegant, surgically precise tweaks to a plant's genetic code. We'll see how targeted gene editing can help crops tolerate stress, upgrade quality, and build overall resilience.
