Sip of Science: A Window into the Molecular World Inside Living Cells

About Event

Just as the environment we live in tunes who we are, it also shapes the molecules that make life possible. Nucleic acids and proteins are not fixed, static objects; they respond to their surroundings (the chemical microenvironment) and can fold, unfold, and refold in response. A structure seen in a test tube may not always give complete information on the archetypes that perform the actual function inside a living cell. So why not just ask the cell? That's the mission of in-cell NMR spectroscopy: an atomically resolved view of biomolecules exactly where they naturally exist and act.
