Prof. Ing. Martin Trunec, Dr. is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Brno University of Technology and Head of the Advanced Ceramic Materials research group at CEITEC BUT. His research focuses on advanced ceramic materials and their processing, particularly the colloidal processing of fine oxide powders and nanopowders. He has long been engaged in the study of the mechanical, biological, optical, and electrical properties of advanced ceramic materials. He has been professionally affiliated with Brno University of Technology throughout his entire career. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1988 and completed his doctoral studies in 1997. In 2006, he was appointed Associate Professor in Materials Engineering, and in 2011, he became Full Professor in Materials Science and Engineering. Since 2016, he has led the research group at CEITEC BUT focused on advanced ceramic materials. He gained international experience during research stays at University of Birmingham, Brunel University London, EPFL, and Stockholm University. In addition to his research activities, he is actively involved in teaching. He lectures in the Materials Engineering study program and supervises bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses. He is the author or co-author of more than 70 scientific publications with a strong citation impact in the international scientific community. For his scientific and educational contributions, he has received the Silver Medal of Brno University of Technology (2025), the Polish Ceramic Society Award for International Cooperation (2024), and the Czech Science Foundation Award for an outstanding research project. He is also actively involved in professional societies and academic bodies in the Czech Republic and abroad
