RESEARCH GROUP LEADERS' STORY

About Andrea Konečná

Doc. Ing. Andrea Konečná, Ph.D. is the Research Group Leader of the Advanced Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy research group at CEITEC BUT and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, BUT. In her research, she combines electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and nanophotonics, focusing on the development of new methods that enable precise control of electron beams using light. Her work lies at the intersection of several scientific disciplines, and she has long been dedicated to exploring how to expand the capabilities of electron microscopes and obtain new types of information from them.

She entered her scientific career while studying Physical Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, BUT. She gained essential experience abroad and in international research teams, which led her to electron microscopy and nanophotonics. Today, she combines theoretical modeling with experimental work, leads her own research group, and collaborates with leading scientific institutions in Europe and the United States. An important part of her work is also mentoring students and young scientists, with whom she develops new research directions.

She is currently the principal investigator of the prestigious GAČR Junior Star and ERC CZ LightEM projects. Under her leadership, a team of PhD students, postdocs, and students works on developing new methods in electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and nanophotonics. In addition to advancing her own research program, she also focuses on building international collaborations and training the next generation of scientists. The long-term vision of her team is to develop a next-generation electron microscope capable of effectively observing processes and phenomena that are currently difficult for scientists to study
