About the position:

For the project New Technologies for Translational Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences /NETPHARM, project registration no. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004607, within the Operational Programme Johannes Amos Comenius (OP JAK), Priority 1: Research and Development, Specific Objective 1.1: Development and Strengthening of Research and Innovation Capacities and the Implementation of Advanced Technologies, we are seeking a junior research fellow to work on Research Objective No. 5: Advanced in vitro and in silico approaches in drug development.

We use cryo-electron microscopy and tomography to determine the three-dimensional structures of viruses and bacteriophages and to characterize their infection of cells. We employ fluorescence light microscopy for time-resolved imaging of phage infection in biofilms. We study human viruses from the families Picornaviridae and Flaviviridae, as well as tailed phages of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Our laboratory is part of the structural biology program at CEITEC. We have access to our own electron microscopes: Titan Krios equipped with Falcon4 and K2 detectors, Talos Arctica, TF20, and a Versa 3D dual-beam microscope for focused ion beam milling. Our team includes technicians who assist with routine laboratory tasks.

What will your daily tasks include?

  • Ensuring the exclusive professional operation/functionality of the acquired infrastructure
  • Sample analysis using separation methods
  • Routine work on sample preparation methods
  • Development of new LC and LC-MS methods
  • Development of new sample preparation methods
  • Technical support for experimental work
  • Communication with service providers and ensuring smooth operation of separation and MS systems
  • Providing facilities for the operation of MS and SFC systems, including maintenance of nitrogen and carbon dioxide supply
  • Technical support for the procurement of laboratory materials (chemicals, consumables, non-investment equipment) for the research team
  • Work on key project activities
  • Ensure regular communication with the project implementation team
  • Be responsible for the completeness of materials and timely fulfillment of project-related deadlines
  • Co-create and review project-related documentation
  • Be responsible for fulfilling obligations arising from concluded employment relationships
  • Participate in project implementation team meetings at designated times

You have (necessary competencies):

  • Active knowledge of English
  • Required education in the relevant field of the research objective
