High Performance Materials and Coatings for Industry – Ladislav Čelko

The research group focuses on the investigation of the relationships between materials & coatings manufacturing technologies, materials structure, and its further modification towards high-performance applications, driven by industrial and society requirements.

The main research objectives belong to the interdisciplinary areas of inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry & mechanochemistry, powder metallurgy, lightweight metals, advanced ceramics, and composites, sintering & heat treatment, additive manufacturing, supercritical drying, thermal spraying and other coatings technologies, materialography, and development of testing technologies, intended for transport, energy & vacuum, electronics, environment, medicine, and general mechanical engineering industries.

Engineering Materials and Coatings

• chemical, electrochemical and mechanochemical synthesis of advanced materials;
• investigation of xerogels and supercritical dried aerogels;
• investigation of multifunctional materials and coating systems;
• development of advanced processing technologies and materials testing methods.

Materials Characterization and Analysis

• design of materials and coatings for industrial applications;
• investigation of lightweight non-ferrous alloys and metal-ceramic composites;
• reliability and failure analysis of engineering components;
• optimization of manufacturing/processing, microstructure of materials and coatings, and their properties relationships.

Materials for Additive Manufacturing

• synthesis and modification of powders for additive manufacturing;
• processing of metallic and ceramic pastes for direct ink writing;
• additive manufacturing of metals, ceramics, polymers, and cell-loaded hydrogels;
• computer-aided design of architecture and characterization of additive manufactured materials and interpenetrating phase composites.
